Lotte Lehmann

This is a picture of myself taken in the late 1930's. During that time I reached my 'peak' as an artist and really began to make a huge impact on the world.

Der Rosenkavalier

The link below is to a video of me singing Der Rosenkavalier. I love sharing my talent with the world, and to be able to have videos of me singing is truly an honor.

A Despicable Man

This is a picture of a man I absolutely despise. Adolf Hitler and his plans made it impossible to perform in my own country. I had to travel to America to get proper audiences. Luckily, I was able to go back to my home to perform after the dreaded war was over.

Allerseelen Radio Broadcast Recording

This is a recording of a radio broadcast I did of the song "Allerseelen" by Richard Strauss. This was listened to by many people at the time. I am very proud of all of my recordings, and I love sharing them with others.

Dich, teure Halle!

The link below is a recording of me singing "Dich, teure Halle" from Tannhauser by Richard Wagner. Notice my vocal style and tone of voice. You must have both to be a great opera singer.

Richard Strauss, A Friend of Mine

This is a portrait of my good friend Richard Strauss. Richard helped me a lot during my career. He actually gave my my first breakthrough role! He sure knows talent when he sees it.

The Royal Opera House

This is a picture of the Royal Opera House in London. It is a very important place to me because I made my London debut performance in 1914, and also had my farewell performance here in 1951. Being able to have that wonderful opportunity is something I will never forget.

Lotte Lehmann The Master Classes in Lieder

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHyXlpeCmyw

This is a link to a video of me teaching a master class in Lieder. Teaching was always very important to me, and once I retired as an opera singer in 1951, I decided to share my knowledge with the rest of the world. This was filmed in June 1961, and I was teaching at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California at the time. I coached 15 students, and loved every minute of it.

Hallo dort, Liebling!

Hallo dort, Liebling! My name is Lotte Lehmann, and I am a famous opera singer. I’m a soprano, which means I have a high vocal range. I’ve been in a total of 93 operas in my life. I found my true artistic home in Vienna, where my good friend Richard Strauss listened to me sing as an understudy for his opera Ariadne auf Naxos and chose me to sing in its world premiere! I sing in many other operas, and I am also a music teacher. I sang for the first time in London in 1914, and gave my farewell performance there in 1938. As I’ve always said, “The music is the shining path over which the poet travels to bring his song to the world,” (Lehmann, unknown). I’m considered to be one of the greatest singing actresses of all time, and am a very inspiring person to any person who aspires to live their life surrounded by the joy of music. Musik ist meine Lebensdauer! (Music is my life!)
